At Newton we have worked hard to create a bespoke curriculum that has reading as its backbone. We strongly feel that reading is at the very heart of learning, and as such have carefully assessed what the National Curriculum needs to deliver, then ensured that our Christian vision can be realised through the texts we have chosen and meet the needs of the children at Newton. We use an approach to learning English where children use reading and writing skills throughout a sequence of work to 'read like an author and write like a reader' to understand the purpose and impact of literary devices used and the need for different styles of writing.
