In line with our vision, we work hard to ensure that all children are inspired and supported to achieve the highest level of personal and academic excellence in order to become a valued and valuable member of society. We are committed to offering children equal opportunities to work towards our vision regardless of their background.

The Government provides additional funding to improve the attainment and achievement of disadvantaged pupils. Evidence suggests that children from disadvantaged backgrounds generally face extra challenges in reaching their potential at school and they often do not perform as well as their peers. There is a number of Pupil Premium Grants that schools may be in receipt of, these include:

  • Children who are eligible for Free School Meals.
  • Children who have been eligible for Free School Meals in the last six years
  • Looked-After and Previously Looked-After children
  • Services Children
  • Early Years Pupil Premium

At Newton on Trent Church of England School, the use of our Pupil Premium Funding is varied across the school. The overarching aim is to ensure that any spending has an impact on children’s progress and attainment. We seek to narrow the gap and ensure each child has the same chances to achieve. Strategies may include:

  • We aim to improve teaching and learning opportunities for all pupils by offering new training, resources and professional development where needed to have a positive impact on children’s attainment.
  •  Ensure that academic support is decided on because of need in individual cohorts in order to have maximum impact on progress and attainment.
  • Use the funding to offer wider opportunities children may not have access to, in order to build confidence, aspirations and resilience.
  • Understanding that all children who in receipt of pupil premium may not be academically disadvantaged but need support in other areas to achieve.
  • Offering a high level of pastoral support to all children
  • Addition 1:1 time with an experienced adult
  • Smaller class sizes with additional support in the room.
  • Support with uniform, trips or anything else that many increase achievement.

Please find below reports on how we have spent the Pupil Premium money and the impact that this has had on our children.
